Endo is an ethnomusicologist born in Majalengka, West Java. He has studied traditional arts—particularly
gamelan, dance, and wayang—since childhood.
His formal education includes ASTI Bandung, Yogyakarta, Wesleyan University, and the University of
Washington. He has taught at various institutions, including KOKAR, KONRI, Cornell, UC-Santa Cruz, and
others.
He has been involved in contemporary and experimental arts, such as Teater Loh in Bali, Aladdin by
La Mama Theater, and Tempest of Borobudur.
His ethnomusicology work includes research, documentation, and revitalization efforts in Java, Sumatra,
and NTB.
He led publications like Seri Musik Indonesia, Gong Magazine, and Tikar Media, and
founded LPSN which developed multicultural arts education and bamboo instrument labs.
He has received support from institutions such as Ford Foundation, Fulbright, Japan Foundation, and the
Indonesian Ministry of Culture.
